CMCA Congratulates SmartWay Transport Partners who are recipients of a US EPA 2020 SmartWay Excellence Award
Award Recipients Are Top Environmental Performers and Leaders for Freight Supply Chain Efficiency
Many of our members were honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as true industry leaders in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. These companies represent the top performing, environmentally responsible SmartWay Partners that move more goods more miles with lower emissions and less energy. Excellence Award recipients were announced at a virtual press event hosted by the EPA with its SmartWay Partners, key stakeholders and media in attendance. The award recipients are listed below.
We wish to congratulate and thank our members and the others that have been recognized by EPA for their outstanding efforts in reducing emissions and greenhouse gases. The SmartWay Program reflects the voluntary commitment of hundreds of companies in our industry to do their part to improve the environment.
Gregory D. Fulton, President
Colorado Motor Carriers Association
“EPA is pleased to honor these SmartWay Partners with a 2020 Excellence Award,” said Karl Simon, Director, EPA’s Transportation & Climate Division. “These carrier Awardees continue to lead through these challenging times, working diligently to deliver to our families the goods and supplies we need each day, while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future for our children.” This year’s Awardee list is a diverse group with about one-third first-time Awardees, about one-third which have received the award at least five times, and three Awardees in multiple categories. This range of repeat and first-time Awardees demonstrates the competitive nature of this recognition – any company is only as good as its last year’s environmental performance data. The Awardees are geographically diverse with at least one Awardee from all but one EPA Region, and six from Canada.
Karl Simon, Director
EPA Transportation & Climate Division
The Colorado Motor Carriers Association (CMCA) provides a solid “pro-trucking” representation to the State, Local and Federal Government and has a consistent and positive working relationship with regulatory and legislative bodies. We prevent ill-conceived ideas from becoming law, mostly by providing solid facts and suggesting alternatives that work for everyone. CMCA has effectively represented Colorado’s Trucking Industry for over 75 years.
EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses to move goods in the cleanest, most energy-efficient way possible to protect public health and reduce emissions. Demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and freight efficiency through SmartWay provides for a more sustainable and competitive business environment.
Since 2004, SmartWay Partners have avoided emitting more than 134 million tons of harmful air pollution, while saving 280 million barrels of oil and $37.5 billion in fuel costs – equivalent to eliminating annual energy use in over 18 million homes. SmartWay partners also help protect clean and healthy air by significantly reducing pollution that contributes to smog, including fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
