Colorado Motor Carriers Foundation

Foundation-Logo-WebThe Colorado Motor Carriers Foundation was established in 2015 as a 501C3 to fund educational opportunities, community service programs and research projects for the Colorado trucking industry.

The purpose of the Colorado Motor Carriers Foundation is to receive contributions and hold fundraising events in order to support the efforts of organizations or individuals exemplifying the trucking industry.

The Colorado Motor Carriers Foundation is dedicated to:

  • Granting scholarships to individuals for the purposes of continuing their education,cmca-foundation-purpose-4
  • Providing funds to organizations that promote and prepare materials for distribution on public safety as it relates to the trucking industry and its commitment to sharing the road safely with all vehicles,
  • Developing leadership or mentoring programs to fortify trucking businesses and the communities they serve,
  • Actively participating in presentations, workshops, seminars or similar institutional endeavors relating to industry safety initiatives at the local, state and federal levels,
  • Conducting technical studies, and to provide for the publication thereof, dealing with the economic, regulatory and environmental advancements of the trucking industry.

Giving Opportunities:

Thank you for your interest in giving to the Colorado Motor Carriers Foundation (CMCF). We could not continue the important work we are doing without the generous donations of individuals and companies; and donations of all sizes are appreciated.

Here are a few other ways you may give in order to help generate a positive image for the trucking industry and impact the safety and education programs of CMCF:

Memorial Gifts:

If you would like to make a donation in someone’s memory or in honor of an outstanding individual, CMCF will notify necessary family members or honored recipients for you.

Colorado Gives Day:

Colorado’s largest day of giving, Colorado Gives Day, takes place the first Tuesday in December every year.  On this day, thousands of people come together to support Colorado nonprofits like ours.  However, Colorado Gives Day encourages online giving year-round, so please give where you live and support CMCF at your convenience.  cmca-foundation-purpose

Gifts of Stock:

Ask your broker or CPA to assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer. By giving a gift of publicly-traded stock that you have owned for more than one year and that has increased in value, you may gain greater tax benefits than when you give cash.* You avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock, and because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock, you may also save by not incurring brokerage fees.

Deferred or Planned Gifts:

If you would like to make a planned gift, you may name CMCF as a beneficiary of a paid-up life insurance policy. Because they are realized at a later date, these gifts allow our organization to plan for the future. These gifts also entitle you to a tax deduction equal to your cost basis in the policy or its replacement cost, whichever is less.* You may make a planned gift and receive an income for life through the establishment of a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust that names CMCF as a beneficiary; or you may name CMCF as a beneficiary of your retirement plan and incur tax benefits this way.* Your attorney or CPA can advise you of the various types of charitable trusts and the estate tax benefits of each so you can set up a planned gift that is tailored to your personal needs.

Bequests:

There are several ways to leave the Foundation a bequest in your will. You may give a specific amount of money, a percentage of the residue of your estate, or a specific item of property to CMCF.

Workplace Contributions:

Company employees may give to the CMCF together, and our staff is willing to assist you in developing a workplace giving campaign for your business.

Matching Gifts:

Many employers will match the personal donations of its employees or the funds raised through a workplace contribution campaign. Discuss the idea with your employer before you give to the CMCF as you may be able to increase your donation in this way.

Annual Auction/Paddle Raiser:

The Silent Auction/Paddle Raiser is held each year at the Colorado Motor Carriers Association Annual Convention. We are currently accepting cash or item donations, so please contact us if you would like to participate.

*Note: Please check with your CPA or attorney about specific tax benefits and deductions pertaining to these giving methods, as these may vary.
